Game clocks

A drill, a casual turn, and an official match can require different timing behavior. This collection helps you distinguish a useful practice clock from a rule-governed game clock. Before choosing a mode, identify who starts it, what stops it, and whether more than one player needs independent time.

Choose a clock that matches the rules of play

For practice, a stopwatch can measure an observed segment and a countdown can bound a turn. Agree on how interruptions and disputes are handled before starting. Use visible phase labels for group activities, and keep the operator separate from the action when that makes the controls easier to manage.

Formal competition may require equipment or timing rules that a general browser tool does not implement. The guides below explain the decision rather than treating every sport as the same kind of countdown. Check the relevant event rules when official timing matters.
